Giving is a noble quality all Buddhists should embed within them and strive to implement in their daily life and practice constantly. Every so often, this is carried out by the Seela Shrawaka community associated with our monastery. They are shining examples of model citizens who give their time, effort, and resources for the benefit of the community. Shramadana promotes compassion, kindness, generosity, and inspiration which is evident by the increasing involvement of locals in these events.
A typical Shramadana includes cleaning, repairing, and beautifying the main road that leads from the main town to the monastery. In the most recent event, they took it a step further by adding convex mirrors on street corners to aid drivers in avoiding potential hazards. We should all admire and respect these heroes for their selfless service and their efforts to create a positive impact on the local community.
